Hello, Jhana’s supporters! It’s your disability advocate and writer, Jhana. I hope you’re all doing well. I’ve been busy with school, particularly with my second attempt at the class I failed before winter break. I have to admit that it hasn’t been easy. But I am determined to graduate this year, no matter what.
I never wanted anything so bad in my life. My mom is making me say, “I will get my degree,” instead of, “I hope I’ll pass so I can graduate.” Most of you probably know me enough to see that self-confidence can be challenging for me. But I am trying my best to be more positive. I will have more time when I pass this class because graduation is just around the corner. I am so excited.
Also, I am proud to say that these weekly blogs are working very well. I finally found a day to write my blogs regularly. I am also trying to write blogs for another platform called Unwritten. I’ve been writing for them for a year or so as a full-time writer. But because of school, procrastination, and writer’s block, I found it difficult to come up with articles and write them on time. To help me with that, I find blogs on HubSpot and get ideas for my blogs and articles. However, I do not copy and paste anything; I reword it to make it my own to avoid plagiarism. Now, let’s get into today’s blog.
I didn’t know what I wanted my next blog to be about. After a few hours of thinking, I finally came up with a topic: goal-setting and turning dreams into reality. So, let’s get started.
Understanding the Importance of Goal-Setting
Goal-setting is crucial to achieving success in any area of life. It can provide clarity, allowing you to focus on what truly matters. Without setting your goals and aims, you could drift from your true passion, feeling unsure of the next steps.
What’s more, setting goals can help you measure your progress and stay positive.
Types of Goals: Short-Term vs. Long-Term
Understanding the difference between short- and long-term goals is essential for effective planning. Short-term goals are typically achievable within a few weeks or months. They’re stepping stones leading you toward your larger objectives.
Long-term goals take more time to accomplish. In some cases, it might take you a few years. Long-term goals can provide a vision for your future, guiding your short-term efforts. Balancing both long-term and short-term goals will allow you to maintain motivation and direction as you work toward your dreams.
I’ve learned the difference between long- and short-term goals from my school instructors at Full Sail University. My short-term goal is to be a self-published author, work on my blogs and vlogs, and manage Jhana’s Writing Journey on Facebook, Instagram, and my website.
As of now, I don’t get paid for my blogs. I don’t get much for my books either. But that’s okay; being a self-published author means that I am trying my best to get noticed so one day I can be able to do it full-time. I’d also like to get published by a major publishing company. And that is my dream. My other dream is to be a bestselling author. But right now, I choose to be a self-published author and do my blogs, vlogs, and website without getting paid. It’s also good practice before getting a real job. And my blog editor said that there’s nothing wrong with that.
SMART Goals: A Framework for Success
The SMART framework is a powerful tool for setting effective goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Your goals must meet this criteria. Following these steps can increase your chances of success.
For example, instead of saying “I want to be a bestselling author,” a SMART goal would be, “I will be a bestselling author one day.” This helps clarify your intentions and creates a clear path moving forward.
Overcoming Obstacles: Staying Motivated and Focused
There is no doubt that you will face challenges and setbacks while trying to achieve your dreams and goals. To stay on track, find ways to stay motivated and maintain focus. Developing a positive mindset and surrounding yourself with supportive people can make a huge difference in your life.
If you regularly revisit your goals, remind yourself that you can do anything you set your mind to. Adapting strategies such as breaking goals into smaller tasks can also help you manage the feeling of overwhelm.
Celebrating Achievements: The Key to Sustaining Momentum
Celebrating your achievements, no matter how big or small, helps sustain momentum. By recognizing your accomplishments, you’re well on your way to achieving your goals. Reflecting on what you’ve learned is also very important.
You can reward yourself for your accomplishments by treating yourself to your favorite restaurant, going to the mall, or getting yourself something nice. You can even share your success with your friends and family. Celebrating achievements creates a positive feedback, helping you stay motivated to strive for more.
